 2023 Preview 


       Lamar County completed the 2022 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region five, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Lamar County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Southeastern by a score of 16-7.

       Since 2010, Lamar County has gone a combined 76-69. Their 52.4% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Lamar County has managed to compile a record of 138-139. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 2A and 190th in the AHSAA.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Robert Bradford who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-36 over the past six seasons at Lamar County. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bradford. Over the course of his career, Coach Bradford's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times .

       The Bulldogs return a lot of talented key players on offense and could make some noise in 2A come November. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 64-47 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 2A and 38th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region five this season.

      QB Xander Bradford will be returning after completing 148 of 250 passes for 1,890 yards last season along with 11 touchdowns.

      Jordan Godsey will be back this season at running back after rushing for 1,206 yards and 16 TDs in 2022.

       The Bulldogs open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent South Lamar on Friday, August 25 at George Bell Stadium. Last year the South Lamar Stallions finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region five. The Stallions lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Spring Garden by a score of 35-7.

       Lamar County and South Lamar have met a total of 39 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 19-20-0 record against the Stallions. They last met in 2022 with Lamar County winning by a score of 42-26.

      

       The Bulldogs return 2A All-State Senior running back Jordan Godsey. He was named to the second team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior athlete Ty Eskridge. He was named to the second team.
